If you’ve ever encountered a toddler in the “Why?” stage, you know how relentless their questions can be (some of my favorite from my daughter):
“Why are you doing that?”
“Why can’t I ride the dog?”
“Why can’t I have chocolate?”

While exhausting, this stage is essential for their development. It’s how they begin to understand the world and their place in it. But what does this have to do with running a business?

As entrepreneurs, we often operate in “do” mode—responding to emails, serving clients, fulfilling orders, and managing tasks. We forget to stop and ask ourselves the most important question: Why?

The Importance of Defining Your Why

Your “why” is the foundation of your business. It’s what gets you out of bed in the morning and keeps you going through challenges. Just like a toddler’s “why” is the key to understanding their world, your business’s “why” unlocks its purpose, goals, and future growth.

Why Your Business Needs Its Why

  1. Direction: Knowing your purpose helps you align your business decisions with your core values.
  2. Connection: A clear “why” resonates with your audience, building trust and loyalty.
  3. Motivation: It fuels your passion and keeps you focused during tough times.

If you’re struggling to articulate your “why,” now is the time to pause, reflect, and redefine it, which is actually what I am doing in this stage of my life/business as well! And to help, we’ve created a downloadable Business Clarity Toolkit to guide you through this stage.
